Day Nineteen: "Now may He who who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness."
--II Corinthians 9:10 (NKJV)
The word "increase" within this context comes from the New Testament Greek word "auxano" which means to enlarge, to grow, or to cause something to become greater. The Apostle Paul's prayer for the believers in Corinth was focused upon God our Father and His ability to provide increase. Far too many of us are seeking "increase" from outside sources that do not necessarily have the wherewithal and resources to provide what we need. Apostle Paul, the writer of this particular verse prays to God and acknowledges that it is God alone who is the supplier, provider, and the multiplier! Therefore we must look unto Him.
The Supplier and Provider: Our Father supplies and provides seed to the sower. All of us have some sort of seed and the purpose of that seed is to plant it into the earth for harvest. The first key to experiencing increase in our lives is we've got to use what we've got! Let's make good use of the seed that has been supplied to us. What has God placed in your hand to be used for His glory? Moses had a rod and God told him to throw it down. David had a sling and five smooth stones and he only had to throw one stone and victory was won. The Little Lad had two fish and five barley loaves of bread and he sowed that into Jesus' "Meals on Wheels Program". Mary had an "alabaster box" and she broke it and poured it out for Jesus. What kind of seed do you have in your hand and how can it be used for God's glory?
The Multiplier: In the realm of arithmetic, our God specializes in addition and multiplication. Apostle Paul acknowledges in his prayer that our Father is able to multiply the seed that we plant and also increase the fruits of our righteousness. In this year of abundance, let us prepare ourselves to receive spiritual and material gifts from which we must pass on to those who are in need and for the Lord's ongoing work. In doing so, God will continually bless and increase us in every respect: materially, economically, spiritually, intellectually, socially, temporally, and eternally.
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Supplier and Provider. All that I have needed Your hand has provided. I pray that in this new year, You would continue to show me what "seeds" I have and how I can "plant" them for the good of Your Kingdom here upon the Earth. Use me, Lord, in Your service. I thank You in advance for multiplying and increasing the fruits of my righteousness for Your glory and Your names' sake. In Jesus's name, Amen!
