"Shine on Me!"
Day Eight: Psalm 84:11 "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good things will He withhold from those who walk uprightly."
It is believed that this particular psalm was written by King David after he had been banished from his Kingdom and barred from the Holy City by his rouge son, Absalom. This was a time in his personal life when King David must of felt vulnerable, isolated, and miserable. After having been forced to flee from his own palace at that hands of his own flesh and blood and those same men from his "inner circle" that betrayed him, he longed to be in the tabernacle of God. There may come a time in all of our lives when we may feel the effects of not being able to go into the "House of the Lord". This particular Psalm teaches us that even when we cannot physically enter into the Lord's House for worship and consolation, we always have access to the "Lord" of the House! When we develop a meaningful relationship with Him, even in the midst of our darkest seasons we have a Father that we can depend upon. Here in the eleventh verse, King David makes it clear to the reader just who his Father is and what He will do for his own.
A Sun and Shield
King David describes the Lord God as a sun and shield! The sun is our source of light, heat, and power among many other things. In a natural sense, we need the sun to shine upon the Earth for the basic necessities of life and for our survival. Just as the Earth needs a Sun, the believer needs the SON! The Son is our source of light, warmth, and power while we are here in the earth. Let us praise Him for being our sustainer and our protector. Therefore, no matter what this year will bring, we have to remember that our Father is a sun and shield!
Giver of Grace and Glory
King David labels the Lord as the giver of "grace and glory"! As He shines upon us, we become the recipients of God's grace, which is His unmerited favor. That's good news this morning! Just think of how we really don't deserve all that our God does for us, but yet He continues to show us FAVOR and glory, which means he honors us and esteems us highly as His children. He has placed a "high premium" value on the lives of His children. We are the King's kids, members of the royal family, and He loves us so much more than we truly realize. He will not withhold any good thing from those of us who walk with Him.
Shine on me, Shine on me
Let the Light from the lighthouse, Shine on me
Shine on me, Shine on me
