"The Blessing of Obedience"
Day Eleven: Deuteronomy 28:5 "Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed."
In twenty-eighth chapter of Deuteronomy, Moses shares about two things: blessings and curses. As children we are taught to do as we are told. It is very important that we listen to wise instruction. Proverbs 1:7 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” God, through His word has given us instructions by which he calls us to live. Many refer to the Bible as Basic Instructions before Leaving Earth. While some may feel that there are too many “rules” that go along with Christianity, there are benefits that come with following instructions.
Verses 1 -14 outline the blessings of obedience. Specifically in verse 2 it says that the blessings will come upon you and over take you. These are the kind of blessings that you have to make room to receive. If you are willing to follow the plan that God has for your life, you will be blessed. It’s just that easy. If God has called you to serve, then serve with all that is within in you and watch God bless you. If God has called you to give, then give all that you can. The result of our obedience is that God will respond. His response is in the form of blessings. These blessings are personal, familial and national, if we heed to the voice of God.
Today’s focal verse specifically speaks of blessing our basket and our kneading trough. The basket “tene” in this text was that in which the first fruits of the harvest. This blessed basket is God’s favor upon what He has planted in your life. This blessed basket is the one that holds the best part of your harvest. This blessed basket is an outward demonstration of an inward work that God is doing that has yielded harvest. God has blessed the work of your hands. The second part of the blessing in this verse is the blessing of the kneading trough, the place in which dough rises. In other words the place where you prepare the bread for your sustenance will be blessed. This will be life giving bread. As we heed the word of the Lord and do as he has instructed us we will be blessed. Our harvest will have the best fruit and our kneading trough will have the best in all the land because the Lord has blessed it.
Let us pray,
Lord, we ask today that you would help us to follow your word. We don’t want to use any excuses, we don’t want to procrastinate we don’t want to miss what you have for us. We pray that you are pleased with our lifestyle, our praise and our worship. Thank you for the harvest of an obedient life. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
